Digitech Whammy DT

When Digitech came out with the Whammy V, they also decided that there should be an option or even more pitch shifting functionality. Thus, the Whammy DT was born. This big beautiful machine gives the user unprecedented pitch shifting abilities along with the super fun slippy slidey functionality of the whammy pedal itself. For horns, this is one of the most valuable pedals available today and should be a consideration of every affects user.

Interface:  4/5
Overall, the Whammy DT’s interface is very simple to use. However, you do have to scroll through many settings to get to the one you want. That can be mitigated by using the Digitech FS3X switch, but that will still take a lot of tapping to find the right setting. The value of the whammy pedal itself cannot be understated, as this adds a whole bunch of variability. One of the biggest negatives of this pedal, however, is that there is no dry/wet knob. This does make the blend between voices with some instruments worse than others.

Versatility: 3.5/5
This pedal has a huge range of harmonic options, and the capability to do large glissandi. It has two chorus settings(deep and shallow), but you cannot use the harmonizer with the chorus setting at the same time. Slightly more versatile than Whammy V because the right side of the pedal allows you to add another voice or octave, meaning that if you were to put an octave+dry on the right side, you could still use chorus on the left.

Live application: 4/5
Switching to settings that are any distance apart on the pedal is a bit of a struggle, but once again, the whammy pedal itself adds so much in a live element, that its overall usefulness in a live setting is great. One drawback that is inescapable it this pedal’s huge footprint.

Tonal reproduction: 4/5
For trumpet and saxophone, the lower octave (trombone sound for trumpet and baritone sax sound for saxophone) are terrific, with incredible tone reproduction as well as articulation. With that said, although the upper octave mimics a soprano beautifully, the trumpet signal makes the output very thin and synthesized. It should be noted that this pedal does not have a warm tone (it is quite sterile).
