Vox has endeavored to make an exact recreation of their original wah pedal from the 60’s. They have achieved their goal beautifully in the world of guitar, but the older design may not be of help to horn players. With the wonderful addition of AC power so that you do not have to spend your life’s savings on batteries, they have improved on a classic. Sadly, this pedal does not seem to work well with trumpet. Saxophone players have had more luck with it, but there is still some thinness of tone and a lack of presence of the effect.

As with most wah pedals, the interface is the definition of simplicity. Just click it on and rock.

Clarity of effect: 1.5/5
The V847 does not respond to a trumpet input very well at all. The sound is thinned out and the sweep is very small and has no discernable depth. With a saxophone, the Vox had tonal issues as well. The tone is thin and the effect is quite unclear and muffled.

Were it not for the sonic issues, this would be a great live pedal. It functions as simply as one could hope for and it surely looks great.
