MXR M-234 Analog Chorus
MXR M-234 Analog Chorus
MXR have created a simple yet effective chorus pedal that is eerily similar to the Boss CE-5. The only real difference between the two is the Boss’s digital circuitry as opposed the the MXR’s analog circuitry. This pedal does provide some warmth to your sound and is a solid choice for anyone looking for a simple analog chorus.

Interface: 3/5
Although this pedal has almost the exact same controls as the Boss CE-5, they layout might be just a tiny bit easier to read and use on the fly since the hi and low pass filters are not crammed into the same knob.
Versatility: 3/5
As with many similar chorus pedals, this one is not meant to break new ground. It gives you a range of subtle to intense chorus with a bit of tone manipulation.
Reproduction of sound: 3.5/5
The tonal realities come down to preference with this pedal. Where some might prefer the digital sound that the Boss CE-5 produces, others may prefer the analog sound of this pedal. Analog tends to have a more warm character to it where digital can be more electronic and sparkling. This pedal does do a fair job of reproducing your tone. If you want some warmth in your chorus, the analog sound is definitely a plus here.
Live application: 3.5/5
The hi pass and low pass knobs seem to react a bit more organically and with more noticeable effect on your sound than its immediate competitor the CE-5. Since the layout of the knobs is a bit more simple and straightforward, this might be a slightly better pedal for live use.
